Frequently Asked Questions

Briefing Cadets Before Flying

What do Air Cadets do?

Lots of different things! Some of the activities include gliding, team sports and personal fitness, camping and survival skills, riflery, drill and leadership training, and summer training.

You will participate in these activities during the weekly meetings and on the weekends. It all happens in a fun, friendly, and safe environment.

How old do I have to be to join Cadets?

You can join as soon as you've reached your 12th birthday and you can remain until you turn 19.

What does it cost to join?

The Cadet Program is partially funded by the Department of National Defence in partnership with the Air Cadet League of Canada. The Squadron Sponsoring Committee is responsible for raising extra funds required for non-supported activities.

While there is no cost to join, parents and cadets are expected to participate in, and contribute to, fund raising as required by the Squadron Sponsoring Committee

When and where do the the Hanover Air Cadets meet?

The Hanover Air Cadets meet each Monday evening from 6:30 - 9:00pm and some weekends throughout the school year. A cadet must participate regularly in the activities to remain in good standing at the Squadron.

The Hanover Squadron meets at John Diefenbaker Secondary School. The Squadron office is located on the lower level, beside the cafeteria.

Will I be expected to join the Canadian Forces?

Absolutely not! There is no obligation to join the military and even though Cadets are funded by DND, you are still a civilian.

No matter what career you choose, Air Cadets helps you develop your leadership skills through team work, and confidence building activities. You will develop new skills that will stay with you for the rest of your life!
